I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love me a good ole crime drama. I could literally soak in marathon after marathon of Forensic Files, Snapped, For Your Man, Fatal Attraction or The First 48.
More so than the story itself, I love the re-enactments that bring them to life. I’ve always wondered about the actors who are hired to portray the wife who poisoned her husband for his extra-marital affair, or the husband who was shot because he got his mistress pregnant. Listen, the stories are juicy!
When I learned that Bahamian actress Kristin McIntosh has actually starred in some of my favorite crime dramas, I was even more excited to watch the murder mysteries unfold. I recently caught up with Kristin to chat about her career, re-enacting some gruesome, painful and homicidal scenes and starring alongside Angela Bassett.
eLIFE242: How long have you been an actress and how did you get your start?
Kristin: I’ve been acting professionally for three years. During my second year I was officially signed to South East SAG Commercial and Theatrical Agency. I tend to count the years I spent training and doing local theatre as well, so for accuracy purposes I would tell you it’s been five years.
eLIFE242: What are some shows/movies you’ve been cast in?
Kristin: Most of the projects prior to this year’s national television network bookings have been shot and aired locally or within the Southeast region, or are set to air in the near future. I’ve had two series bookings that can be streamed when aired. I’m still shooting for those at the moment. Yes I’ve also been in Snapped! In that episode I actually got to play dress up dress up, like the works. Lol, I played 50 year old teacher. I most recently shot a Health Care, Legal Firm and a Hotel Brand Industrial Commercial. I’ve done a Health Care Industrial Commercial. I’ve recently booked a pilot which I can’t say too much about just yet. I’ve done quite a number of short films, a lottery commercial about a month ago. I’ve worked on a few National Network Crime Series shows as well. Crimes dramas are really popular in the Southeast. I was cast in ATL Homicide but unfortunately had to turn that one down. Ugh, and that was my favorite one.
eLIFE242: Tell us about your latest project and your role in it?
Kristin: My latest project filmed would be Murder Chose Me, “Red Flags” episode. This actually aired a few weeks ago so you can most likely still catch it on rotation On ID Channel until season four premieres. I play the mother of the murdered victim.
eLIFE242: What future projects do you have planned and where can we see you next?
Kristin: I have a few things in the works that I’d much rather speak more on when completed, but rest assured that eLIFE will definitely get the announcement first. This is just the beginning for me. I’m excited that these are the things I prayed for and I realize that I’m actually starting to make visible progress.
eLIFE242: Who’s your dream co-star or the person you’d love to appear on camera with?
Kristin: Hands down and without a doubt Angela Bassett. I just love this woman!
eLIFE242: Fave movie and TV show?
Kristin: Favorite movie varies and can’t just be narrowed to one. One of the things my coach almost always instills in my mindset is that this industry is forever changing and as an entertainer we must be able move right along with the changes. So studying what’s trending and falling in love with it in your own way will only strengthen your talent. I have so many movie/ show favorites. From ‘I Dream of Jennie’ to ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ From “Breakfast At Tiffany’s ” to “Fences.”
The next time you’re up until 2 a.m. screaming at the TV because you can’t believe how greedy and evil her husband is; or why someone would kill a pregnant woman, take a closer look and see if you spot Kristin!
