Parking Lot Pimpin’! How Bahamian Guys #ShowLove

Bahamian men are special..in more ways than one. But when it comes to their bromances and friendships they can really be ride or die. You literally need a ride, your boy is there. You need a few dollars to hold on to until pay day, he gat you. Flat tire on the Tonique Williams-Darling Highway, guess who coming with his gas tank nearing “E”…your boy! But despite these white on rice relationships there are just some situations some Bahamian men have to support their boys in…from the parking lot!

1.The hospital – For some reason men are afraid of anything to do with doctors, needles and gloves. So if you have to be rushed to the A&E at Princess Margaret Hospital after you step on a nail, just know that your boy is there…not in the room, nor in the lobby or even in the building. He’s in the parking lot waiting on your aunt to come out to get an update and prolly sippin’ on a lil Henny. Your girl just had a baby? He’ll drop you to the hospital and wait on the pics to be sent to the WhatsApp group. Don’t go into surgery…he ain’t coming at all I mean unless the 2 of you were just shot or something!

2. Court – He’s dressed to the nines while you fight that traffic ticket or child support case. He woke up 7:00 a.m. to ride with you to the courthouse when the case comes up but…he aint coming inside. I swear outside the courtrooms in The Bahamas is where the most action is. This is where all the boys and some family members congregate to discuss the specifics of your case, over hot patties and Juice Bowl (mixed with a lil Henny) …while the judge is inside discussing the actual specifics of your case. Don’t worry, your boy will just wait outside until you come out so he can randomly scream, “FREEDOM!

3. Your Funeral – “I’m going to my boy’s funeral.” No the hell you’re not! You’re going to the parking lot across the street from where your boy’s funeral is to drink Guinness (or a lil Henny, well no a whole bottle of Henny), wear a T-shirt with his face on it and jeans and throw a party while others are inside paying their last respects. It’s become a new trend where some of homeboys of the deceased gather in a grassy lot near the funeral service and drink beers and smoke until the pall bearers wheel you to your final destination. That’s your boy? Show him some respect!

Now, yes, support is support and we appreciate you being your brother’s keeper! What other scenarios have you seen this parking lot support happen?!
