When most ladies hear the name “Sexy Thang” mentioned in Nassau, they immediatly associate the store with its proprietor Bridgette Butler. Bridgette has been styling ladies for some of the hottest events over the years, and now during her 11th anniversary she talks to us about how she has maintained a steady flow of customers who will ‘swear’ by Bridgettes outfit choices.
SO BRIDGETTE WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO CLOTHING?
Clothing expresses who we are and what we are individually about, in my opinion. We express ourselves thru the clothing we wear and how we present ourselves and i enjoy helping people get their point across when its time to step out whether its to the club, on a job interview, to church, or where ever it is that’s going on in their lives.
THE NAME OF THE STORE IS VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD, DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A “SEXY THANG”?
I consider myself to be a straight forward person, (sometimes too straight forward!) and i believe that a confident woman is a very straight forward person. ‘SEXY THANG’ is to me a fun way to express that confidence.
YOU’RE A FUN BUBBLY PERSONALITY, DO YOU THINK THIS HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESS OF THE STORE?
Yeah baby! that’s what its all about. For me, this is a ton of fun. It’s hardly ever work. This is why I am successful at this. I have found my gift from God and I’m using it to bring life, fashion and love to my dear customers.
WHEN PEOPLE WALK INTO YOUR STORE IT ALWAYS FEELS LIKE YOU KNOW JUST WHAT THEIR STYLE IS AND WHAT THEY MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR… HOW DO YOU DO IT?
Great question. I find that i have a gift of connecting almost immediately with people’s emotions, I can almost tell what kind of day they are having or about to have. I myself dont know exactly how that happens, except to say that it is also a gift from God. I like to get to know who my customers are and observe their sense of style by talking to them one on one.
WITH THAT PERSONAL ATTENTION I’M SURE YOU HAVE GAINED ALOT OF REGULAR ‘SEXY THANG’ SHOPPERS, ANY INTERESTING STORIES ABOUT YOUR REGULARS TO THE STORE?
I sure have. it has become a family for me over the years. I have a particular customer who lets the world know that she was the very first one to walk through the doors 11 years ago and she still shops with me to this day. When i first opened, i only sold lingerie and costume jewelry, the need for me arised to dress my girls when i was being so admired for the clothes I was rocking.
IF YOU COULD PICK ONE MOMENT IN THE 11 YEARS OF RUNNING THE STORE, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT?
Wow, there are so many memorable moments at ‘SEXY THANG’ that its crazy in my head right now, over the past 11 years we have made brides cry, make-ups, break-ups, concerts, artists last pair of shoe you been looking for, found it, perfect dress, perfect outfit, great service, so many memorable moments that it would almost be unfair to try and figure which one.
WHERE DO YOU SEE ‘SEXY THANG’ IN THE NEXT 11 YEARS?
SEXY THANG in the next 11 years will probably be very set in producing its own line of clothing and accessories. We are well on the way of making magic happen in Nassau, hollywood style. STAY TUNED!!!!!!!!!!!!
