It’s clear as day now: if you’re a business owner you need social media to survive. No longer is it enough to depend on traditional marketing tactics to move your product and get people booking your services; these days you really have to keep your finger on the ever pulsating trends, updates and benefits of effectively tweeting, posting on the ‘Gram, sharing to Facebook and hopping on Tik Tok.
Well there’s a queen in the local beauty industry who knows this all too well and is taking advantage of everything social media has to offer to grow her business. Meet Jaime Cara, owner of Amani Hair and Beauty, and might I add, social media guru, who has been using digital marketing over the past few years to grow her business, educate her customers and of course turn her trending content into cash. CHA-CHING!
Jaime tells us why, as an entrepreneur, she made the move to embrace social media as a part of her business marketing strategy.
“I always knew the power of social media but with budgetary constraints I couldn’t approach it the way I wanted to. I started to notice when I would share snippets of my cute days wearing my hair extensions and the feedback I would get, people would want the exact extensions that I was wearing. I’m a bit of an ambivert so I never wanted to be the face of my brand but when I realised that the units I wore were the ones actually converting I decided that I needed to put myself out there more.”
And putting herself out there more has paid off…BIG TIME! Jaime says after hopping on TikTok, recording catchy videos and joining in on a few trends, she saw a massive uptick in her clientele and…her cash flow!
“Eighty five per cent of my new customers are coming from TikTok. I’m able to tap into a new area of the market. In one month alone I saw double in my sales, all as a result of TikTok. I put myself in my ideal client’s shoe. Most of them are single or in long term uncommitted relationships. I think about what things may be relatable to them. I also scroll on TikTok for inspiration, talk to family members and friends that fit my ideal client.”
So do we really have to ask which social media platform has helped her business to see the most growth?
“TikTok- hands down. Everyone is there. My pastor tells me about my TikTok videos and as far as I know he doesn’t even have a TikTok profile. Instagram and Facebook are like a toxic ex; I go there now and again but with minimal effort and energy.”
But as mentioned earlier, not all business owners are like Jaime and ready to jump headfirst into the social media world. The beauty maven shares this advice for other entrepreneurs who might be afraid to use or doesn’t know how to use social media in their strategy.
“Accept that digital marketing is the way of the world. There is no getting around it. If your ideal client is not a ‘social media person’ they have some family or friend that is. Usually that family or friend acts as a referral for your business, just by talking about how they saw you on whatever platform. This right here is gold. All you have to do is produce great content and social media will do the rest.
“Fear is normal, especially in a society where we people watch & criticize. But if you really want your business to have the best chance of reaching the right people who will pay your price, then social media is your vehicle. For the ones that don’t know how to use social media, my DMs are always open and I am more than happy to help… free help… the kind of help I wish I had.”
But seriously, she means that! One of the things that attracted us to Jaime is the fact that she so freely and willingly shares such great tips and gems for business owners, her Instagram page is littered with freebies that could help any small business boost their marketing strategy.
“I always wished I had a business bestie, and I still want this. So I decided to take the approach of, “Doing unto others as I would have them do unto me.” It is my hope that once I share my success and failures, someone can learn from me and pass on the knowledge to someone else who may be earlier in their journey. I am hoping for an “each one teach one effect.”
