Ms Bodacious is at it again as she drops some game changing music with her latest single “Sugar in a Plum”! A balanced mix of Junkanoo, Afro-beats and Hip-Hop, Sugar In A Plum is an anthem for Caribbean women’s empowerment as it praises all of the beauty and sensuality an Afro-Caribbean woman can contain. Bodine’s catchy cadence and vibe over the duration of the song are one of a kind and it keeps listeners locked in to every word.
I want women to know that they are the Sugar in a Plum! We are the reason society moves forward, we are capable of balancing our professional obligations while maintaining our sensuality and sacred energy. There are quite a few metaphors in the lyrics that I’m hoping people come to not only recognize but internalize.
When asked what inspired her to write an song that inspired her fellow Caribbean goddesses to proud of who they are and how they present themselves, Bodine says:
I remember thinking at one point during my childhood that I was ugly; with my open gate and overbite and dark skin and natural ‘peasy’ hair. I thought this about myself despite my parent’s constant reminders that I was beautiful, smart and a queen. It took me forever to appreciate my skin and my unique beauty, intelligence and power and I realize that it’s something many women and young girls struggle with to this day.
Bodine is showing that consistency in brand and style are key to capturing your audience’s heart and we are here for it!
